Pink masterbatch pellets

Broadway has reported a 44% increase in the volume of compounds they’ve sold in the last 18 months. The trusted plastic materials manufacturer attributes this to their improved factory infrastructure as well as increasing awareness of their compounding services.

Broadway has manufactured colour masterbatches for the past 25 years. This remains the core part of their business, but their growth has seen them expand their capabilities to rotational moulding powders and more recently, colour and additive compounds.

There are certain applications where a colour compound is necessary, or preferred to a masterbatch. Colour compounds are widely used in the production of very colour critical parts. They can also be advantageous when moulding lightly tinted colours, colouring complex mouldings or when using filled plastics such as flame retardants or engineering polymers. Some special effects such as mottles and pearls are also best achieved using compounds.

Purchasing a colour compound helps eliminate the risk of inaccuracies when dispersing colour. Where customers using a masterbatch must dose and distribute this accurately throughout production, those using compounded materials move ownership of this to their supplier. Broadway’s entire process happens in-house, so they have complete colour control whether the finished material is a masterbatch or compound. Sales Director Nick Barber attributes their long-term success to their service levels and their ability to evolve in line with changing customer requirements…

“We continually adapt to meet the needs of our customers. We started producing custom compounds around six years ago in response to customer requests. Some of our customers have struggled to obtain lower volumes of colour compounds at competitive prices. Large compounders may charge a significant premium or impose a much higher minimum order quantity. We’re able to fulfil compound orders from just 25kg to full truck loads. We feel the flexibility this offers sets us apart from many of our competitors.

Our new laboratory opened just last year, and this has accelerated the development of new additive masterbatches and compounds. Since 2020 we’ve added a new production line and have doubled our mixing capacity. This has helped us maintain industry-leading turnaround times. Even large lot compound orders are typically despatched within five working days of an order being placed. Our sizeable warehouse means we can hold significant quantities of finished materials in stock. So customers can use our call-off service to make further savings and receive deliveries of their stocked material on a next-day service.”

Broadway have an extensive library of over 50,000 colours, they can compound a variety of polymers in both virgin or recycled material and are able to incorporate performance additives from their growing range. They’re happy to offer a free colour match, a competitive price, and the promise of great service.
